I once read something about fractals and chaos, and thought it interesting but incomrehensible. I asked my mathemetician son about it and he dismissed it as all nonsense. So I learned nothing and still wonder. Then I thought about patterns and how much I dislike repeat patterns on wallpaper that the eye travels over and over. Motifs seem more like variations on a theme, so there wouldn't be monotonous repeats. That would be a much more acceptable wallpaper. Off your subject a bit, but I did think about it.20th Century Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11432147267959308192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891799686668632768.post-38354576114209650062009-05-12T10:46:00.000-07:002009-05-12T10:46:00.000-07:00Fractal is not in my dictionary so I looked at the...Fractal is not in my dictionary so I looked at the other words starting with frac - fractious, fracture, fraction - and all have a negative connotation. I guess that's why Fractal is not a lovely word. The root must be unpleasant in some manner.

Motif is a pleasant sounding word. Interesting 'take' on the two words.Darlenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18373134676852496647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891799686668632768.post-49245790541147240002009-05-11T19:50:00.000-07:002009-05-11T19:50:00.000-07:00Lovely post, Marylou. And being so utterly astonished when my father produced a picture of his mother and her sisters wearing the exact same pattern.
Some patterns are cellular, I truly believe.
XO
WWWWisewebwomanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15281689872840844191noreply@blogger.com
